The Central Bank of Brunei Darussalam has issued practical guidance warning investors not to rely on the appearance of online investment content, as artificial intelligence can generate or manipulate videos, images, audio, documents and endorsements. Published in connection with World Investor Week, the guidance urges investors to verify the original source and legitimacy of promotions before investing, clicking links or sharing content. Investors should confirm apparent endorsements through official channels and check whether providers appear on the central bank’s List of Licensees or Alert List. Screenshots of returns, account balances and withdrawals, as well as testimonials from known contacts, should not be treated as proof. The central bank also cautions that AI tools may provide inaccurate, incomplete or outdated financial information and should never receive passwords, PINs, authentication codes or account details.
