The Central Bank of Montenegro received an international award under the global WE Finance Code initiative for developing a reliable, publicly accessible data framework to monitor women-owned businesses’ access to finance. The framework supports the identification of financing barriers and the development of more targeted policies and financial products for women entrepreneurs. As national coordinator, the central bank leads a coalition of 28 institutions whose financial sector signatories represent 93% of Montenegro’s banking assets. A key component is an interactive dashboard using Credit Registry data from 2024 onward, with business classifications developed alongside MONSTAT and the Tax Administration. It provides gender-disaggregated lending data by factors including enterprise size, economic activity, region, interest rate, collateral and loan purpose, while the broader initiative has established indicators for reporting to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.
