The Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD), Science Based Targets Network (SBTN) and Nature Positive Initiative have issued coordinated updates to make nature-related assessment, target-setting and reporting more consistent. The revised approaches allow businesses and financial institutions to reuse data and analysis across the frameworks, supported by a common foundation for measuring the state of nature. TNFD’s LEAP 2.0 is the first upgrade to its nature-related assessment approach since 2023. It incorporates state-of-nature measurement, environmental crime and invasive alien species, while expanding guidance on risk and opportunity assessment, financial institution portfolios, transition planning and landscape and seascape approaches. Science-Based Targets for Nature 2.0 provides more flexible entry and validation pathways, broader freshwater and land coverage, and additional implementation resources while retaining place-based methods and independent validation. The Nature Positive Initiative has distilled more than 600 existing metrics into four core indicators covering ecosystem extent, ecosystem condition, species extinction risk and species populations. Their integration into the TNFD and SBTN frameworks is intended to support comparable measurement and corporate implementation of Target 15 of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
