The White House has established a committee to investigate allegations that Federal Reserve Governor Lisa D. Cook made false statements in connection with one or more mortgage instruments. The committee will determine whether there is cause to remove Cook under 12 U.S.C. 242, as construed in Trump v. Cook, and submit findings and a recommendation to the president. The committee comprises the assistant to the president for economic policy, the chairman of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the director of the Office of Government Ethics. It will hold a closed, transcribed hearing at the White House on Nov. 5, 2026, and may consult executive branch personnel, including the Department of Justice. Cook may present arguments and evidence, submit written statements before and after the hearing, and be represented by counsel. She must appear for questioning and comply with requests for documents or other evidence. The committee must provide her in advance with the evidence it is considering and will report to the president as soon as practicable after the Nov. 10 deadline for her post-hearing statement.
